I am a published children’s book author with a new title just out in 2019 and THREE new titles coming out in 2020/2021/22!
I write picture books, chapter books and middle-grade books.
I also write for adults.
I write both fiction and nonfiction.
My books are silly, sweet and usually a combination of both.
I sometimes write in rhyme, mostly because I believe children enjoy how it rolls off the tongue like word-song.
In addition to writing for kids, I’ve also taught them, in “Shel Silverstein” workshops at alternative education co-ops. I teach adult memoir and essay writing workshops, which, through the years, have helped me grow as a writer more than I can say.
Sitting at the head of the table cheering on other writers, really fuels my own fire for this craft. We are kindred in our creative journey and much of our message is universal. We are so in this together. That’s why I created my blog, Kidlitmusings. It’s my way of encouraging other writers along the way.
I am a former broadcast news journalist, freelance essayist and syndicated columnist for Gatehouse News Service. For ten years I was also a Public Relations Director and spokesperson for a major U.S. Aquarium where I got to do really cool things like coordinate and accompany national news, like CNN, Fox and New York Times reporters to observe wild dolphins in the waterways of Hilton Head, South Carolina. I also organized major news coverage of many rehabilitated and released whales and seals along the coast of New England. I’ve appeared a couple of times with a penguin or two on NBC’s Today Show.
I am a member of The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. (SCBWI)
I live in Connecticut in the company of three amazing and much-loved guy varieties:— My husband, teenage son and ginger-cat-extraordinaire, Lumpkins, AKA Lumpy.
